Hedgerow Foraging
About
I am a local girl, recently retired after a career in the Finance Industry and Local Politics. I have always been interested in the history of our wonderful island, particularly the areas where I have lived. I enjoy sharing the joys of our island with visitors. I have more recently enjoyed foraging and incorporate this in my Port Soif area walks and some seasonal tastings.
Walks
Town Walk – I am on the Town Walk rota, leaving the Information Bureau at 10.30 each morning from April – October – The tour provides an overview of island history, also covering the German Occupation, Privateering, People and Places of interest that lived in the Town and St Peter Port area.
Pirates, Smugglers and Privateers – A Town walk designed specifically for children (5-11) with their parents – enjoy tales of the history of smuggling and privateering, along with other tales adapted for children – includes some audience participation.
Industry, Tragedy and Heroics – A Walk from Salarie Corner to the Longstore and around St Johns Village. Take in the rich history of the area, ship building, the rise and fall of the tomato growing industry, tragedy during the 2nd World War and heroics of a brave few who defied the Germans during this time.
Candie Gardens and our Georgian Suburbs – A tour around the Georgian suburbs of St Peter Port, a circular walk starting at Candie Gardens. We look at some of the superb Georgian properties, the entrepreneurs and interesting people who lived in these properties over the years. Includes the story a Jewish lady who hid in plain sight of the Germans during the Occupation and the home where Victor Hugo’s doctor once lived.
Port Soif Hedgerows and History – A history of Port Soif and Grandes Rocques area. Including hedgerow and some seaweed foraging in Spring and Autumn when tide and conditions allow.
