About

I have lived in Guernsey since 1997 and during lockdown left the world of banking after 35 years to qualify as a tour guide, after leaving the bank I became the manager of La Societe’s Conservation Herd which is a herd of 6 steers and 2 calves which graze the Guernsey grassland to help increase biodiversity. I play petanque (French Boules) so if you fancy a game of petanque please let me know. I’m also a bee keeper and am always happy to chat about beekeeping in Guernsey. As well as the tours listed below I am happy to discuss a bespoke tour to suit your interests and times.

Tours

Tour to Tour (2 hours)

A walk from Tour Gand to Tour Beauregard, Tour meaning Tower, this is a walk taking in 5 of the old Boundary stones of medieval St Peter Port dating from 1350 via various prominent buildings and stopping to note other points of interest along the way including places mentioned from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Optional stop at one of the pubs en route.

Abreuvoirs, Bunkers and Crab Pots (2-3 hours)

A circular coastal walk around La Bouvee, St Martins taking in cattle drinking troughs, world war II bunkers and crab pots at a small fishing harbour. We also walk past the areas as mentioned in the Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society book. Optional cream tea at the end of walk. (Additional cost)

Seaweed Foraging Tour (1.5 hours)

Discover the hidden treasures of the ocean as we share the fascinating history of seaweed in Guernsey and its many uses in cosmetics, farming, cooking and the fashion industry. This is a hands on learning experience – we will be using seaweed moisturiser and you will have the opportunity to eat multiple types of fresh seaweed straight from the beach. Option to include lunch or dinner at a local restaurant that uses seaweed as ingredients.

Cows and Coast (1 hour)

A biodiversity journey where you will be able to see the herd of six steers (Guernsey Male Cows) that I managed in order to increase biodiversity. They are all pure breed Guernseys. You will be able to get up close with the cattle who always love a good scratch. You will see how grazing, as opposed to mowing, can help the environment as well as learning about Guernsey. We also discuss the historical features of the coastal area where they graze.

Around Island Tour (2-4 hours)

A trip around and across the Island. Explore our country lanes, visiting some or all of the 10 Guernsey parishes.

Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society Tour (2 hours)

This is a coastal walk around the cliff paths of St Martins and an opportunity to see the sites around the hamlet of La Bouvee, this is the fictional area where many of the book’s characters lived. We walk where Dawsey met Captain Christian Hellman and pass the favourite beaches of Elizabeth and Kit. Optional Cream Tea.

Petanque and Gache (2-3 hours)

An opportunity for a group of 4 or more to learn the game of French Boules and have a friendly competition in St Peter Port.

Group Maximum 12 people including children. 2 Hours is a good time but can be longer if required.

I will give a welcome speech and introduction to Petanque covering its history and the rules, each person will have a practice before being split into teams for a friendly competition. All the equipment necessary will be provided and as a Silver Accredited Tour Guide I can discuss aspects of Guernsey whilst playing and answer any questions you may have.
