Alan moved to Guernsey at the age of eight and has called the island home for more than 40 years. He is a Chartered Librarian and has worked at the Guernsey Public Library for the past 15 years.
A keen student of Guernsey's history, Alan is fascinated by the island's rich and layered heritage, from prehistoric times to the modern day. His passion for history extends beyond the island, and he is especially intrigued by the role Guernsey has played on the world stage despite its modest size. He has a particular interest in the island's Neolithic monuments, traditional folklore, and the natural beauty of its landscape.
Before joining the library service, Alan worked as a castle keeper at Castle Cornet, Guernsey's premier historic fortress. During his time there, he served as the castle's official guide, sharing its history and stories.
Alan's undergraduate dissertation examined the protection and preservation of Guernsey's archaeological and historic sites. He later completed a master's dissertation exploring the local study resources available to Guernsey primary school teachers.
