Simon is a founder member of the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides, achieving a silver accreditation in 2004 and a gold in 2022. Alongside his role as a features reporter at the island’s only printed daily newspaper, the Guernsey Press, he is also enthusiastically involved in theatre and film, as well as football commentary.
In short, Simon loves nothing better than telling stories. And as he will tell anyone who listens, Guernsey has more stories per square inch than anywhere else west of Jerusalem. From our fascinating geology, through the first Neolithic settlers, Roman development, medieval rural practices, peculiar Civil War experience, emerging industries and the seismic German Occupation, all the way to the latest developments in island politics, Simon has identified a multitude of tales and characters with which to illustrate a proud island’s rich heritage.
St Peter Port walking tour
The story of Guernsey can be told with a stroll through the streets and venelles of its capital. We’ll hear about the first settlers, the Roman expansion, the industries of quarrying, dairy farming, horticulture and finance and the extraordinary figures who helped shape the island’s course, and that of the wider world – Victor Hugo, Sir Isaac Brock, James Saumarez, Thomas De La Rue and Captain Willliam Le Lacheur. We finish with a deep dive into Guernsey’s darkest days, the German Occupation of 1940-45, and our brightest hour – Liberation Day.

Lush Lanes and Landlubbers
This beautiful St Andrew's walk will lead you along some of the most lush but seldom-visited lanes on the island. Delancey Park
Discover the amazing story of our island’s greatest naval hero, Admiral Lord James Saumarez, who was born over 250 years ago and went on to shape Baltic history, defying Napoleon and saving Sweden into the bargain.
